Started building the boat in the late 80s but couldn’t finish because of a move. Decided this year to build a RC model from original plans (way overdue). I still have my original WoodenBoat magazine issues (73-75) describing the build. Beautiful, classic lines and construction methods just like the Downeaster. Great to see this beautiful example of the Downeaster.

I built a runabout of somewhat similar dimensions with a 75 hp outboard. We live at altitude in Colorado, usually boating at 6000′ to 9000′ altitude, and get 35 mph with my boat. My hull has a 12-degree stern deadrise; easier planning but I doubt that it handles waves as well as the Downeaster. I have always wondered if a 14-degree deadrise would have made much difference.
